Dec. 9th 6pm Thomas Kennedy Sculpture to be Briefly Unveiled, Menorah Lit

December 9, 2018

There will be a lighting of a large menorah and an unveiling of the Thomas Kennedy sculpture tonight Sunday Dec. 9th, 6pm.

December is the 200th anniversary of Thomas Kennedy's Introduction of the Jew Bill that opened the doors for Jews to fully serve in public life in Maryland. Tonight is the last night of Hannukah, a Jewish holiday that celebrates religious freedom.

On Sunday Dec. 9th at 6pm...
A candle lighting ceremony will be held at the Thomas Kennedy Park across the street from the Congregation B'nai Abraham at 53 East Baltimore Street. It will be led by Rabbi Ari Plost, Rabbi of B'nai Abraham and Founder of the Thomas Kennedy Memorial Park and Leon Seidman, President of the Congregation B'nai Abraham along with Senator Andrew Serafini, Delegate Paul Corderman, former Senator Don Munson, Judge Brett Wilson. All are or were elected officials who held or hold Thomas Kennedy's seat. Also attending will be Hagerstown Councilperson Lew Metzner, Noted Sculptor Toby Mendez and Tom Riford, the executive director of the Thomas Kennedy Center.
This is an historic moment for this historic project.
Rabbi Plost said, "It is an important legacy at an important time. We will not be afraid to stand against anti-Semitism and shine the light of Judaism and religious freedom for all."
The sculpture will be briefly unveiled.

Tonight Sunday Dec. 9th, 6PM across the street from the synagogue. PLEASE JOIN US.

(The brief unveiling of the statue is only the second time the sculpture has been available for view. The first time - pictured here - was at the memorial vigil honoring the people killed in October at the Pittsburgh synagogue.)
